Bigadan - Kalundborg Energy
Kalundborg Bioenergy, a part of Bigadan, produces bioenergy from organic residues. From 2026 onwards the facility will capture, purify, and liquefy biogenic CO₂ which will then be be safely and permanently stored in a depleted oil reservoir below the North Sea through the Greensand Future Project.

About the project
Known for its biogas production, Kalundborg Energy, a part of Bigadan, procures organic residues from Novo Nordisk and Novonesis to annually produce about 30 million Nm3 of bioenergy.
From 2026 onwards, the plant will capture, purify, and liquefy the CO₂ which would otherwise be emitted as part of their production process. Through their partnership with INEOS Energy, the biogenic CO₂ will then be safely and permanently stored in a depleted oil reservoir below the North Sea through the Greensand Future Project.
Having secured subsidies through the Danish Energy Agency’s Negative Emission Carbon Capture and Storage (NECCS) tender, Bigadan’s approach will support Denmark’s growing carbon capture and storage infrastructure.

Company story
We turn green commitments into profitable realities.
Since 1982, Bigadan have been a strategic partner in non-fossil energy, CO₂ reduction, and circular energy systems. We deliver biomethane, biogenic CO₂, gas certificates, and CDR credits as documented solutions for emissions reduction and help our partners move closer to their climate targets. As owners of the entire value chain, from biomass sourcing to energy production, we ensure full transparency, traceability, and measurable climate impact across every solution we deliver.
We are currently building the CO₂ plant in Kalundborg, capturing CO₂ from our biogas plant. From April, we will start transporting liquefied CO₂ to Esbjerg, where it will be stored until it is shipped for permanent storage in the Nini Field. This is only the beginning - for us, continuing this journey is simply the natural next step.
