About project

Carbo Kollerup is a biochar project that converts waste wood biomass biomass from surrounding landscape conservation into biochar. The biochar is applied to nearby agricultural land, where it permanently stores carbon while enhancing soil health and increasing water retention.

About supplier

The project is operated by a family-run business with deep roots in the local area. The family manages both the biochar production and its application on their surrounding fields, ensuring close oversight of the full process from biomass sourcing to soil incorporation.

Benefits of project and method

  • The project offers ex-post credits, which represent carbon that has already been removed and verified.
  • Energy produced from the production process is reused to dry the feedstock, creating a circular process that reduces energy.
  • Real-time data tracking with end-to-end monitoring through Cula technologies.
  • Biochar improves plant health, soil fertility and reduces fertiliser use. It also improves animal welfare as a feed additive.
  • It increases water infiltration and retention, reducing runoff and improves the water-holding capacity, making crops more resilient to drought conditions.
  • All employees have access to a wide range of courses offered by the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Agriculture, with all costs fully covered by Carbo Kollerup.
  • Carbo Kollerup has a low risk exposure to local resistance, geopolitical risk, and corruption.
