Benefits of Project & Method

  • Biochar permanently removes carbon for 100+ years.
  • They have two pyrolysis plants and produce around 1 million kWh equivalent of heat energy and around 1,500 m3 of high-quality biochar per year.
  • They are a part of German-founded Biochar Association, which acts as a partner for science and practice for technical plant developers and political decision-makers. They develop binding quality standards for biochar production and the biomass used.
  • The process uses forest wood chips that are subjected to a continuous pyrolysis process at approx. 650 - 700 °C to produce high quality biochar.
  • Biochar improves plant health, soil fertility and reduces fertiliser use.
  • It increases water infiltration and retention, reducing runoff and improves the water-holding capacity, making crops more resilient to drought conditions.
  • Certification: European Biochar Certificate (EBC)
