Carboneers have upgraded their artisanal biochar production by adopting “Earth Kilns” developed by High Plains Biochar. This enhanced technology improves worker safety, reduces methane emissions, and enables more accurate emissions tracking. It ensures stable and consistent production while preserving key co-benefits for agricultural systems and maintaining a strong focus on equality and women’s empowerment.

Carboneers develops distributed biochar projects at scale in the Global South, where biomass is more abundantly available and often goes to waste. By training farmer communities to convert their own agricultural waste biomass to biochar, socio-economic value is created where it's needed most . Biochar is a stable carbon sink, locking away CO₂ for hundreds of years with which carbon credits are created. The vision of Carboneers is to remove carbon at scale, while providing farmers with more economic stability and enhancing their soil fertility: contributing to a more food-secure, climate-resilient world.
"Biochar is a simple but powerful tool — it sequesters carbon, improves soils, and gives smallholder farmers a reliable second income. Specifically in Ghana we've managed to have the first third-party digital payment system in whole biochar industry."
