Kalundborg Bioenergy, a part of Bigadan, produces bioenergy from organic residues. From 2026 onwards the facility will capture, purify, and liquefy biogenic CO₂ which will then be be safely and permanently stored in a depleted oil reservoir below the North Sea through the Greensand Future Project.

BECCS involves the combustion of biomass to create carbon-neutral bioenergy and the subsequent capture of the CO₂ produced. The CO₂ is then permanently stored in underground formations, resulting in a net carbon-negative impact.
